Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme

South Africa is including in Hungary’s International tertiary education programme called the – ‘Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme‘. According to the agreement between Hungary and South Africa, Hungarian universities will annually host 100 South African students (from Bachelor to Doctoral level). South Africa is Hungary’s 53rd partner in this education and skills development programme. This scheme annually benefits around 3,500 foreign students studying at Hungarian universities and colleges.

Programme outline

The 100 full scholarships offered to South African students, by the Hungarian Government, are for study purposes at one of 27
World Class, participating public universities in Hungary. It is important to Note: – All courses available for South Africans are taught in English.

Eligible Programmes

The Stipendium Hungaricum is offered at the three levels of study Bachelor’s (30 students), Master’s (60 students) and at PhD level (10 students).

Eligibility

  • Be a South African citizen in good health;
  • Have a strong academic record:
    • Bachelor’s applicants require a minimum average of 70% in their NSC (excl LO)
    • Postgraduate applications require a minimum of 65% in their previous studies 
  • An interest in studying in Hungary and demonstrated commitment to the development of South Africa
  • Available to study in Hungary from September of the year academic year (e.g. 2021)
  • Meet the entry criteria for their selected programme in Hungary;
  • Meet the minimum academic requirement for entry into a similar programme at a South African university.
